Career Extenders Incorporated grew out of a desire to treat back pain among dentists; a goal which grew from the physical therapy practice of an orthopedic therapist certified in spine care. While treating dentists, it became clear that the forward leaning position is the greatest contributor to back dysfunction among dentists. Research has shown for decades that muscle stress and disc pressure decrease when the trunk is supported from the front in a forward leaning position, yet dentists have always been told to use good posture and exercise as their only defense against crippling pain. After many years of treating dentists with severe back pain, we began to search for a viable method of preventing back dysfunction by changing the working conditions of dentists. Unable to find any solutions that applied research findings, we began to experiment with building an infinitely adjustable, easy to use support that would attach to a dental chair without obstructing the dentists field of work. The practical concept of Back Support From the Front® was born!
